A Resolution of the City Commission authorizing an emergency purchase for the replacement of Trane Chiller No. 1’s Adaptive Frequency Drive (AFD) power module component at the Public Safety Building (PSB), 2151 Salzedo Street, Coral Gables, FL 33134, pursuant to Section 2-690 Emergency Procurement, in the amount of $141,094.

The PSB’s chiller no. 1 has failed due to complications with the adaptive frequency drive (AFD) power module component. Currently, chiller no. 2 has been running at 100% to compensate for the failed chiller. The Trane company has rebuilt chiller no. 1 under warranty however Trane claims this component is not covered. Currently, the City Attorney’s Office is looking into options.
In the interim and to avoid disruptions to the building’s air conditioning, it is recommended repairs are made expeditiously.
These repairs include replacement of the complete adaptive frequency drive starter, as per the attached proposal.
Under Section 2-690 of the Procurement Code, entitled “Emergency Procurement,” where the City Manager authorizes the emergency procurements of supplies, services, or construction when there exists an immediate threat to public health, welfare, or safety or to prevent or minimize serious disruption of government services.
