NEW BUSINESS:
a. AIPP WAIVER REQUEST, GABLES LIVING
Ms. Cathers advised the Panel that the Gables Living development project is requesting a waiver of the required Art in Public Places fee in lieu of purchasing artwork and placing it at the project site.

Mr. Guerrier made a motion recommending the developer pay into the Art in Public Places fund as required, and not accept the proposal. Ms. Miyar seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.


b. AiPP - RFQ PROJECT DRAFT
Panel members received a Request for Qualifications (RFQ) draft for a public art commission in response to the City Commission’s recent approval to pursue a new piece by a South Florida artist in time for Art Basel 2023.

Mr. Guerrier recommended approval of the RFQ as amended in discussion. Ms. Miyar seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.

ART IN PUBLIC PLACES UPDATES:
The Panel was updated on the status of the following projects:

Restoration and maintenance
Panel members were advised that the restoration of about 15 artworks is close to completion. Staff reported that the project informed specifics for ongoing and more frequent maintenance. Ms. Cathers discussed the possibility of having a proposal audit done for larger commissioners to better access actual maintenance needs. She added that the next step regarding ongoing maintenance is to bring on a contractor. Panel members overall expressed the benefits of having a conservator on staff.

AiPP Code Amendment
Staff advised the Panel that this is being addressed with the City Attorney’s Office.

CITY COMMISSION ITEMS:
There were no City Commission items.

DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Ms. Hernandez brought a copy of the Lowe Art Museum’s sculpture garden map and shared it with Panel members. Ms. Cathers noted that it is collateral material in support of the University’s requirement to maintain a public art collection of thirty piec...
