It is an honor to nominate Sergeant Velier Zaccheo and Officer Robert Wheeler for the Officer of the Month Award for September 2021, due to their law enforcement actions under CGPD Case# 21-5302.
By way of background, on September 20, 2021, the Coral Gables Police Department received a call from a witness advising of several subjects breaking into vehicles at the Biltmore Hotel's parking lot. A B.O.L.O. was issued and units were dispatched to the scene. Sergeant Zaccheo and Officer Wheeler (who were not dispatched to the scene) expeditiously arrived on scene, canvassed the area, and successfully apprehended four (4) subjects without incident. As a result of their swift actions, detectives were able to conduct a thorough investigation, which resulted in the identification and arrest of an active South American Theft Group based out of Chile and Columbia.
This incident is a prime example of Sergeant Velier Zaccheo' s and Officer Robert Wheeler's consistent strong work ethic, teamwork, proactivity, professionalism, and most importantly their dedication to the Coral Gables Police Department and community they serve and protect. It is without a doubt, they both deserve to be recognized and awarded the prestigious Officer of the Month Award.
