Title

A Resolution of the City Commission approving the development of public art opportunities at the new Mobility Hub, approving minimum funding of 1.5% of the building project budget per code toward the artist and artwork selection process, public art acquisition and installation, education, and outreach. (unanimously recommended by the Cultural Development Board approval/denial vote: 6 to 0).

Body

The new Mobility Hub meets the requirement of a municipal construction project governed by the Miami-Dade County Code of Ordinances.

On November 10, 2021, the Mobility Hub project consultant made a presentation to the Arts Advisory Panel regarding potential public art opportunities throughout the site. The Arts Advisory Panel responded with comments that were forwarded to the Cultural Development Board.

On November 16, 2021, the Cultural Development Board reviewed the presentation and discussed the Arts Advisory Panel’s comments. The Cultural Development Board agreed that further consideration of the site and opportunities was warranted and voted unanimously (6-0) to recommend that artwork be incorporated into the Mobility Hub project using the required Art in Public Places fee toward the process, acquisition, installation, and related programming.

A recommendation for approval of the artist(s) and artwork selection process will be brought to the City Commission as a separate resolution.
