It is understood that there may be moments when a business is unoccupied, leaving windows bare, with views into undeveloped interiors.

The Historical Resources & Cultural Arts department, in partnership with the Economic Development department and Business Improvement District, wish to develop a program
That contributes to the beautification and welcoming atmosphere of the Downtown area.

The proposed program, Art On! (working title), will invite area artists and designers to submit qualifications for consideration to develop customized window coverings that also function as public art, and opportunities for social engagement.

Designs will be sought that are uplifting, clearly visible from up close or from far away, modular in design for installation flexibility, and encouraged to have components that invite pedestrians to stop, pause, take a photo, or inquire more about the space itself. A dedicated area for property information will be coordinated with the assistance of the Business Improvement District.

Art On! is intended as a pilot program of the arts and business community. If successful, the program may expand to include a greater geographic area and more artists.

The Cultural Development Board met, were provided with information about the proposed initiative, and voted unanimously to support the recommended program.
