The nomination was submitted by Katherine K. Anderson, Adult Activity Center Supervisor. Who states the following:
“Maria is an exceptional asset to the City of Coral Gables Community Recreation Department especially at the Adult Activity Center (AAC). Prior to• Covid-19 and the temporary closure of the AAC Maria always went above and beyond her duties as the Fitness Coordinator. Not only does she lead numerous fitness classes that are extremely popular amongst the patrons of the AAC but she was also in charge of the AAC Variety Show in February as well as the Western Round-Up that is held in the fall and both events were nothing short of spectacular.
As soon as we knew the AAC would be closed temporarily due to COVID-19 Maria wanted to know what we could do for our patrons to keep them active and healthy. When we discussed utilizing the Zoom platform Maria was onboard with learning how to use it because she wanted to be there for her students of the AAC. The AAC began hosting Zoom fitness classes in March and Maria was leading 7 classes per week and now, she is leading 9 classes that are extremely popular with our residents and patrons. Maria has been there each week for our residents and patrons continuing to provide them some sense of normalcy during the closure of the AAC during these unprecedented times. Maria's continuous drive to provide exceptional service, the dedication and loyalty she has for the AAC and her students are just a few of her attributes that make her a delightful employee.”
