Title

A Resolution of the City Commission electing to use the Uniform Method of Collecting Non-Ad Valorem Special Assessments levied within the incorporated area of the City; stating a need for such levy; providing for the mailing of this Resolution; and providing for an effective date.

Body

Miami-Dade County created this new lighting special taxing district at their October 20, 2020 meeting.  The City of Coral Gables agreed to accept, from Miami-Dade County, transfer of this lighting special taxing district as its governing body.

Registered voters in Cocoplum Phase I will vote in February 2021 on the creation of the District.  This election will be performed through a mail-in ballot.  If approved, the lighting district will move forward.  If it fails, it will not.

In order to be able to utilize the November 2021 tax bill for collection of the assessment for this district should the vote be successful, Section 197.3632, Florida Statutes, requires that the City hold a public hearing and adopt a resolution of intent to use the uniform method of collection, prior to January 1, 2021.  The adoption of this resolution preserves the City’s ability to use the tax bill collection method for these non-ad valorem assessments but does not require the city to use this method.
