Title

A Resolution approving proposed artists for Illuminate Coral Gables 2021, a temporary light-based public art exhibition (unanimously recommended by the Arts Advisory Panel approval/denial vote: 6 to 0, and the Cultural Development Board approval/denial vote: 7 to 0).

Body

A proposed list of artists and installations was presented to the Arts Advisory Panel and Cultural Development Board by Illuminate Coral Gables (ICG) for the temporary exhibition currently scheduled from January 15, 2021, Martin Luther King Jr. weekend through February 15, 2021, President’s Day weekend.

 

The City is a participating partner of ICG along with the Coral Gables Community Foundation, the Coral Gables Business Improvement District, the Coral Gables Chamber of Commerce, and the Coral Gables Museum. Funding for the exhibition is provided through a variety of sources including private, municipal, and outside grant funds through the Coral Gables Community Foundation on behalf of Illuminate Coral Gables.

 

The proposed list of artists and projects is attached as Exhibit A to the proposed Resolution. The Arts Advisory Panel and Cultural Development Board continues to receive updates throughout the project’s development.

 

The Arts Advisory Panel voted unanimously (6-0) to recommend approval of the proposed artist list at their meeting on July 22, 2020. 

 

The Cultural Development Board voted (7-0) to recommend approval of the proposed artist list at their meeting on August 4, 2020.
