Title
A Resolution of the City Commission accepting the recommendation of the Cultural Development Board to appoint Adler Guerrier to the Arts Advisory Panel to serve for the remainder of a two (2) year term, which began on June 1, 2019 and continues through May 31, 2021. (unanimously recommended by the Cultural Development Board approval/denial vote: 5 to 0).
Body
The Arts Advisory Panel was established for the purpose of making recommendations to the Cultural Development Board (a seven member Board comprised of five members appointed by the Commission, one appointed by the City Manager, and one appointed by the Board-as-a-whole) regarding the selection, creation, and acceptance of works of art. Qualifications state that seven of the nine Arts Advisory Panel members shall be professionals in the visual arts, museum administration, gallery administration, public arts administration, art history, design, architecture, landscape architecture or urban design and shall be recommended to the City Commission by the Cultural Development Board, with the City Commission having final approval over the members.
Due to a vacancy on the Panel, on September 1, 2020 the Cultural Development Board reviewed the resume of a recommended arts professional in the area of artistic creation, and voted unanimously to recommend appointment of Adler Guerrier, artist, to the Arts Advisory Panel.
The current members of the Arts Advisory Panel are Dr. Jill Deupi, director of the Lowe Art Museum; Nelson deLeón, architect; Jacek Kolasinski, director of Ratcliffe Art + Design Incubator and associate professor at FIU; Juan Roselione-Valadez, director of the Rubell Family Collection; Emily MacDonald-Korth, forensic conservator; Marijean Miyar, art historian and lecturer; and Manny Mato, as resident appointee of the Commission. One vacancy remains.
