Congratulations to Firefighter Andres Espinoza, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Firefighter of the Month Award,” for the month of December 2019.

Firefighter Andres Espinoza has been selected December’s Firefighter of the Month for his act of concern and consideration in dealing with the public, fellow employees, and supervisors. Specifically, for his courageous actions while rendering aid to his mother-in-law. Last Thanksgiving, on November 28th, 2019, Firefighter Andres Espinoza saved the life of his mother-in-law. While eleven other people froze and did not know what to do for someone with a complete airway obstruction he quickly went into action and defused the situation. Firefighter Espinoza performed three Heimlich maneuvers to free the obstructed airway. His mother-in-law responded quickly, after the food that obstructed her airway was removed she started breathing again and her color returned instantly. If not for Firefighter Espinoza, his mother-in-law would not be alive today. She made a 100% full recovery.
His dedication and initiative are exemplary. Firefighter Andres Espinoza is deserving of Firefighter of the Month for the month of December.
