Congratulations to Michael Machado who holds the title Part-Time Lifeguard III, recipient of the "Part-Time Employee of the Quarter Award," for the first quarter in 2019.

The nomination was submitted by fellow employees who stated the following:
We would like to nominate Mr. Michael Machado as the Part-Time Employee of the Quarter representing the city's Community Recreation Department. Michael first started out with the City as a volunteer aid for the Venetian Aquatic Club where he assisted with teaching children's swimming lessons. He then was hired as a part-time lifeguard at the Venetian Pool in the summer of 2004. Although his passion to help others grew into a full-time job with the City of Hialeah's Fire Department, Michael has not forgotten where we started and has stayed on as employee with the Venetian Pool going on 15 years. Within that time, Michael has since been one of our most dedicated lifeguard instructors and has had a hand in teaching, training, and certifying hundreds of lifeguards including his supervisors, all of who have been responsible for keeping people safe in and around the water at the Venetian Pool. It's evident that to Michael the job has not been about the paycheck but about the difference he can make in future lifeguards lives and in the lives of everyone that visit the Venetian Pool.
His supervisors and fellow coworkers all recognize and have commended him on his great leadership skills and his abilities to be proactive, to problem solve, to communicate with others, to be levelheaded when facing an emergency and his ability to be a team player. Michael takes great pride in his position within the City and has contributed a great deal to any accolades or awards the Venetian Pool has received during his time as a lifeguard.
This recognition of his dedication to our pool, to our staff, and to our department is long overdue and
Michael truly exemplifies what it means to be a City of Coral Gables employee.
