Title

Congratulations to Division Fire Chief Daniel Fernandez, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Firefighter of the Month Award,” for the month of March 2019.

Body

Division Fire Chief Fernandez has been selected March’s Firefighter of the Month for his meritorious display of job performance, specifically for his tenacious work effort that has produced projects Coral Gables has needed to progress as a premier Fire Department. As an operation Chief, he has revamped support services with GovQA, added new dynamics to fleet management and vehicle repairs, helped design a state of the art fire truck.

Chief Fernandez has accomplished setting up a new equipment tracking software called Operative IQ for truck checks and inventory. He has worked with Miami Dade County and City of Miami to bring Opticom, a traffic light sensor that helps fire trucks proceed faster through the thoroughfares of Miami, to Coral Gables. He has worked tirelessly on building the new Station 2, temporary Station U and new construction of Station 1. He has accepted Coral Gables as his new home in such a way that he has started projects such as making a dinner table for the new Station 2 out of an oak tree that was on the property for years. With all that, he still had time to design and purchase two new 4x4 carts for EMS and Fire, and a MCI trailer. Chief Fernandez had added to the overall morale of the department with his excitement for the job pushing the department forward, all while driving to FSU to watch his son play baseball.

Chief Fernandez is well deserving of this honor and we congratulate him for his efforts.
