A Resolution approving release of a Call for Art for Giralda Sky, a temporary public art installation. (unanimously recommended by the Cultural Development Board approval/denial vote: 7 to 0).

In 2018, the Economic Development Department presented the popular Umbrella Sky installation at Giralda Plaza.
In response to the success of Umbrella Sky, the City desires to continue activations at Giralda Plaza that are unique and provide welcoming experiences for residents and visitors to Coral Gables and specifically to Giralda Plaza.
The Historical Resources and Cultural Arts Department met with the Economic Development Department and discussed partnering on an annual artist driven installation.
In response, the Arts Advisory Panel and Cultural Development Board were presented with a Call for Art draft for the temporary public art installation, Giralda Sky and voiced unanimous support of the project in its entirety.
Funding for the temporary installation is being proposed through use of the art acquisition fund for the artwork and general fund for rental of the truss (or other attachment system) with possible additional private sources. A detailed budget and source of funds will be presented when a concept proposal is brought to the Commission for approval.

The Cultural Development Board voted unanimously (7-0) to recommend support of the temporary public installation, Giralda Sky at their meeting on February 5, 2019.
