The City of Coral Gables won first place nationally in the Digital Cities 2018 awards, in the category of Up to 75,000 population. This award from the Center for Digital Government and e-Republic/GovTech is an annual recognition of city performance “using technology to align with city goals; promote citizen inclusion in important government processes and share government data with the public; proactively address citizen expectations; and boost cybersecurity and increase efficiency." Coral Gables received the 1st place in its category for “exemplifying the data-driven characteristic of a digital city with its business intelligence portals and dashboards; transparency and open data portals; smart city projects with IoT sensors and platforms; and utilization of Lean Six Sigma processes;” and for “demonstrating the city’s ability to use technology to improve residents’ quality of life.”
The City received the award at the National League of Cities annual conference in November 8, 2018. During the awards ceremony, the Center for Digital Government highlighted some of the Coral Gables smart city accomplishments such as the new Smart City Hub public platform (<https://www.coralgables.com/smartcity>), Internet of Things sensor data and dashboards, GIS applications, transparency portals, applications store, being a Bloomberg Challenge champion city finalist, demonstrating network resiliency during hurricanes, and receiving the IEEE World Standards prize in 2018.
