In 2016 and 2017 Art Basel event applications were submitted by the City and approved.
In 2016 and 2017 the City partnered with the University of Miami Lowe Art Museum and provided trolley transportation for attendees from the City’s Art Basel VIP event to the Lowe Art Museum for their annual Art Basel Miami Beach Bubbles and Brunch.
Building on the City’s relationship with Art Basel and responding to their recommendation, the City worked collaboratively with the Lowe Art Museum and asked artist Hank Willis Thomas to submit a proposal for a public exhibition in 2018 to coincide with Art Basel, which was approved by the City Commission and Art Basel.
The Lowe Art Museum, likewise, invited Hank Willis Thomas as their featured Art Basel guest and speaker, which was approved by Art Basel.
The City wishes to further the partnership with the Lowe Art Museum and offer the Coral Gables Trolley to invited Lowe Art Museum and City guests for transportation access to the artist’s work at Art Basel Miami Beach at the Miami Beach Convention Center and for a scheduled tour of the artist’s exhibition in Coral Gables.
The University of Miami Lowe Art Museum will recognize the City’s support as in-kind and give sponsorship recognition as appropriate.
