NEW BUSINESS:
a. CORAL GABLES PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING:
Dr. Damian gave a brief overview of the Panel’s objective to recommend a short list of artists to proceed with proposal development for public art associated with the Coral Gables new Public Safety Building. The Panel asked to confirm the budget for the project and staff responded that it is two hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($250,000).
Dr. Deupi made a motion recommending Cherrylion Studios, Cliff Garten, Ivan Toth-Depena, and Jose Bedia to submit proposals for the Coral Gables new Public Safety Building. Mr. Roselione-Valadez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.*
*Please note that following the Arts Advisory Panel meeting, all artists were notified and due to a personal emergency, Cliff Garten declined to move forward in the process.
b. PUBLIC ART WORKSHOP
Staff reminded the Panel of the Public Art Workshop being held on Friday, August 31st at City Hall. The Panel spoke passionately about examples of the variety and quality of public art in other collections and how to convey the breadth of possible options for public art.
OLD BUSINESS:
There was no old business.
DISCUSSION ITEMS:
Lauren Hall announced her acceptance of a State position in Washington D.C. and, sadly, stated her resignation from the Panel. Ms. Hall warmly thanked the Panel and said she will continue to be available for consultation regarding conservation and maintenance of public art.
