NEW BUSINESS:
a. DEVELOPER AIPP PROJECT PROPOSAL FOR GABLES STATION - ARTURO BERNED:
Ms. Cathers introduced the project and the developer’s request for a third artwork as part of the waiver request of the Art in Public Places fee. The developer, she said, is proposing the acquisition and siting of artwork by the artist, Arturo Berned, who was previously approved as a pre-qualified artist by the Panel. The Panel was provided with an updated proposal packet to reference during the presentation.

Mr. Brito made a motion recommending approval of the waiver request to incorporate artwork as presented by artist Arturo Berned into the Gables Station development project, further recommending the artwork in corten steel and at the largest size proposed. Mr. Roselione-Valadez seconded the motion, which was approved unanimously.
b. TEMPORARY PUBLIC ART PROPOSAL: 100 MIRACLE MILE
The Panel reviewed a proposal from the property owners at 100 Miracle Mile to install artwork on site by Jorge Blanco on a temporary basis. Ms. Perez left the meeting prior to the item being discussed.

Mr. Brito made a motion to defer a decision regarding exhibition of Jorge Blanco’s artwork pending further guidance as to whether the proposal is code compliant and if so, that a suitable duration on site is agreed to. Mr. Valadez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
c. PRE-QUALIFIED ARTIST REQUEST: NOUR KURI
The Panel reviewed an artist pre-qualification request for Nour Kuri. Ms. Cathers read aloud the Art in Public Places Program Guidelines review criteria for acceptance of artists to the pre-qualification list. The Panel discussed briefly and the following motion was made:
Ms. Tschumy made a motion to include Nour Kuri as a pre-qualified artist. Mr. Valadez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
d. PRE-QUALIFIED ARTIST REQUEST: ALBERTO BLANCO
Dr. Damian introduced the pre-qualification request for Alberto Blanco, noting that his work is currently exhibited in one of the pop-up galleries on Miracle Mile. The Panel discussed briefly and the following motion was made:
Mr. Brito made a motion to include Alberto Blanco as a pre-qualified artist. Mr. Valadez seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
OLD BUSINESS:
Ms. Spain reported on the City Commission meeting, advising the Panel of the warm reception given to artist Hank Willis Thomas. Ms. Cathers advised the Panel that the Mr. Thomas’ proposal was approved to move forward for a temporary exhibition to coincide with Miami Art Week and Art Basel and of the prior event approval from Art Basel. She went on say that the artist’s studio has been asked to provide a quote for permanent acquisition of the pieces.
Staff advised the Panel of the approval of the Carlos Cruz-Diez crosswalks and that the next step requires County approval.
The Panel was provided materials and a map for the Venice in the Gables project, noting that all thirty-three posts have been installed with a positive response from the public. The Panel as-a-whole agreed that they look terrific. Ms. Spain provided additional details on the structure of the post and the exceptional work provided by Gal Bensaadon of Red Door Construction on the bases and project installation.
