Title

Congratulations to the Coral Gables Fire Department Extrication Team, on its success at the “2017 National Extrication Challenge,” during the week of October 25, 2017.

Body

The “2017 National Traffic Incident Extrication Challenge” held in Clearwater, Florida, included up to fifteen rescue teams from all over North America, South America, and Canada who participated in a team based scenario training exercise designed to promote good team dynamics, improve communications and increase rescue scene proficiency.  Each team consisted of six members, the team leader, a medic, two technical rescue personnel and one person responsible for both medical and technical operations support.

All teams competed in two scenarios and additional training evolutions.  This challenge is a World Rescue Organization sanctioned event and participation qualifies teams for further national and international Rescue Challenges.

Awards were given to the top team in each evolution and the overall top combined score.  The Coral Gables Fire Department Extrication Team won:  2nd Place for the Best Medic; 3rd Place for the Best Incident Commander; 2nd Place in Unlimited; and 3rd Place in the Overall Top Combined Score.

The Coral Gables Team qualified to compete in next year’s World Rescue Challenge in Cape Town, South Africa.  By placing 3rd in the Overall Top Combined Score the team was awarded $1,000.00 to be used towards next year’s competition.
