Congratulations to Officer Luis Lopez, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “2016 Officer of the Year Award.”

During the year 2016, Officer Luis Lopez received the Officer of the Month & The Silver Medal of Valor Award in the month of September for his outstanding police work. He was also nominated for the L.E.O. Award in the Specialized Services Category as well. Officer Lopez was involved in two residential burglary cases on this volatile September 12th afternoon, two of our residents were exposed to violence within the sanctity of their homes. Thankfully, the outstanding bravery of Officer Lopez resulted in the protection of life and property, the prevention of further criminal acts against the populous, and the successful apprehension of the armed subject. Officer Lopez performed his duty in the presence of extreme personal danger and his actions were nothing short of being heroic. In closing, he has demonstrated throughout the year that he is well deserving of such distinction.
