Congratulations to Lt. Jose Pereda, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Firefighter of the Year Award,” for 2016.

Lt. Jose Pereda was selected as the “2016 Firefighter of the Year” for his meritorious display of job performance, specifically for his incredible response to an emergency call involving a 31 year old female bicyclist who flipped her bike. Lt. Pereda could have simply taken this patient to a regular emergency department however he had an uneasy feeling regarding the patient and made the decision to transport her to Jackson Trauma. Within the hour of arrival, she was sent to surgery to repair a ruptured vein thus saving her leg and possibly major complications. Lt. Pereda’s aggressive response, quick actions, and expertise were instrumental in the positive outcome of this call.
