Gables Waterway Residence, LLC (the “Developer”) will be constructing a building at 6100 Caballero Boulevard (the “Project”), just south of US1 across the street from and west of Jaycee Park. The Developer has chosen the option of petitioning for a waiver of the Art in Public Places Fee requirement by donating and installing artwork to the City as specified in the Zoning Code, Article 3, Division 21.

The Developer is proposing donation of a sculpture by Alberto Cavalieri (the “Artist”) titled Cronos. The iron sculpture, created in 2009, weighs 1.65 tons and is proposed to be installed in a concrete rotunda surrounded by plantings and sited in front of the East entrance to the building directly across from Jaycee Park and within the public right-of-way.

The Developer's proposal (attached as Exhibit A) states that Cronos is an iron sculpture knot that appears elastic and flexible, resisting a possible logic and deals mostly with the paradox between form and matter, as well as the duality between the essence of a material and its visual possibilities. The Artist focuses on the importance of challenging the laws of physics and seeking the contrast between the rigidness of the material and organic quality of the shapes.

Alberto Cavalieri, born in Caracas in 1969, is a Venezuelan visual artist who has achieved praise for his monumental sculptures and public works that are integrated into architectural forms.
