Congratulations to Lt. Xavier Jones, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Firefighter of the Month Award,” for the month of July, 2016.

Lt. Xavier Jones has been selected July’s Firefighter of the Month for his outstanding display of individual initiative surpassing job requirements and expectations, specifically for his role during a recent emergency call dealing with an active shooter event at Nicklaus Children’s Hospital. As soon as Lt. Jones heard the announcement over the P.A. he went to the Communications Center to help. He proceeded to work as the Fire dispatcher until 11:00 p.m. that night.
It is employees like Lt. Jones who are selfless and self-sacrificing that are the true assets of our City. After having worked a full day, Lt. Jones did not think twice and took on another shift and in the process helped his co-workers in the Communications Center and his fellow law enforcement officers, while ensuring that all citizens still received the service they deserve.
We are proud to have Lt. Jones as part of the Fire Department and as a dedicated employee of the City of Coral Gables. He is a true example for all to follow and deserving of this award.
