MIRACLE MILE/GIRALDA AVENUE STREETSCAPE - ARTIST PROPOSAL PRESENTATIONS (ACTION):
Mr. Jackson, the lead designer on the Streetscape project, provided a brief history of the project and gave an update on the current status, stating that construction began about two weeks ago. There are weekly progress meetings and the concept has moved forward with minimal changes. Mr. Jackson noted that site locations for public art on Giralda Avenue are still under discussion.
Dr. Damian made a motion to decline the concept proposal of Andy Cao for the Miracle Mile Streetscape. Dr. Deupi seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
Ms. Tschumy made a motion to recommend approval of Sibylle Pasche's proposed artwork for the Giralda Avenue Streetscape. Dr. Damian seconded the motion, which passed unanimously.
ART IN PUBLIC PLACES PROJECT UPDATES (DISCUSSION):
Ms. Cathers gave an update on the status of various public art projects including the new completion timeline for the Alice Aycock sculptures being installed in the Segovia Street traffic circles; Miracle Mile Streetscape groundbreaking planned for April 28th at 10:30 a.m.; and the de-installation of Jean Ward sculptures scheduled for April 28th and 29th.
ADDITIONAL PANEL BUSINESS:
Ms. Cathers advised the Panel of proposed adjustments to the Art in Public Places ordinance, code, and guidelines. Panel members were given hard copies of these documents and asked to review and forward comments to staff for future discussion.
