Congratulations to Capt. Thad Ovcarich, recipient of the City of Coral Gables "Firefighter of the Month Award," for the month of November, 2015.

Capt. Thad Ovcarich has been selected November’s Firefighter of the Month for his excellence in conduct, his dependability and positive attitude. After 22 years on the job, he still displays a passion for his job and for his co-workers. In addition to performing his regular duties as Fire Captain, Capt. Ovcarich goes the extra mile serving on the Executive Board of the Coral Gables Firefighters Benevolent Association providing assistance and support to its members and their families, and to the wider community.
Capt. Ovcarich has worked for the Coral Gables Firefighters Benevolent Association for the past 15 years and served as Trustee, Treasurer, and currently as President. During his tenure in this position, Capt. Ovcarich has spearheaded efforts and assisted in setting up various fundraisers for the American Cancer Society, and for Fire Department functions (i.e. retirement ceremonies and department picnics). The Coral Gables Firefighters Benevolent Association, under Capt. Ovcarich’s leadership, has sponsored various schools and youth sports activities both here in Coral Gables and in the County. In addition, Capt. Ovcarich can be counted on to disseminate department communications to active members as well as retirees.
Capt. Ovcarich is very deserving of this nomination. His unselfish attitude and service to the department and the community should be recognized.
