Title

An Ordinance of the City Commission of Coral Gables, Florida, granting subpoena power to the City Attorney on behalf of the City, and providing for a repealer provision, severability clause, codification, and providing for an effective date.

Body

The City of Coral Gables is committed to enforcing all its Ordinances, specifically the City’s Ethics Ordinance, Squatter’s Ordinance, Abandoned Property Ordinance, and Forfeiture Ordinance, as well as the proposed False Claims and Presentations Ordinance under consideration.  The City Attorney is tasked with investigating violations of these Ordinances and also with enforcing them.   Doing so often requires the procuring of documents, testimony, and other evidence.  Understanding the importance of proper enforcement of City Ordinances, the City Commission wishes to grant subpoena power to the City Attorney to aid in furthering these efforts. In addition, the subpoena power would assist the City Attorney in helping to ensure that the public records laws are followed.
