Firefighter Kyle Durham has been selected August’s Firefighter of the Month for his outstanding display of individual initiative surpassing job requirements and expectations, specifically by his response while off duty to an emergency, when he witnessed a vehicle losing control on I-95. The vehicle hit the concrete median from the express lane and spun out of control, facing on-coming traffic. Without hesitation, Firefighter Durham quickly pulled over his personal truck to block traffic from hitting the crashed vehicle. He proceeded to assess the driver’s injuries and immediately called for help. He was also able to calm the patient, protect the patient’s neck, and reassure him that help was on its way. When Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived, Firefighter Durham provided them with valuable information and assistance. Firefighter Durham’s quick actions and sense of duty are to be recognized.
