An Ordinance amending Ordinance No. 2010-11, renaming the Green Task Force, decreasing membership, membership qualifications, broadening the purpose; and providing for a repealer provision, severability clause, codification, and providing for an effective date.
Body
The Green Task Force was established by Ordinance No. 2010-11 on July 13, 2010 for the purpose of promoting environmental sustainability for the City, which is a way of living and conducting business to ensure a quality of life for the future of Coral Gables. The Task Force is responsible for making non-binding recommendations for taking environmentally progressive actions within the City in support of promoting environmental sustainability.
Since its creation, the Green Task Force has helped create a number of initiatives within the City including:
· Development of the Sustainability Specialist Position.
· Development of the Sustainability Master Plan.
· Development of the Transportation and Sustainability Division within Public Works.
· Implementation of Cardboard recycling.
· Recommendation to join the Ygrene Initiative that provides 100% financing to commercial and residential property owners for energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation improvements.
In response to Green Task Force membership and City Commission feedback, this ordinance amendment was developed to provide for continued oversight by a Sustainability Advisory Board of the implementation of the Sustainability Master Plan. Staff is recommending the following changes be made that include updating the mission and purpose, reducing the overall number of appointed members, and removing restrictions on the qualifications needed to be an appointed member.
