Title
A Resolution approving a reduction in scope and cost of the William H. Kerdyk Tennis Center project.
Department Head Recommendation
Approval.
Brief History
On September 23rd, 2014, the City Commission approved the award of the renovation project to State Contract and Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $2,177,070.

On October 28th, 2014 the City Commission asked staff to revisit the scope of work of the approved project with the goal of redirecting savings to a future project involving the Tennis Center building improvements.

Staff met with both the contractor and the consultant, and was able to arrive at a reduced project scope and cost by making the following changes:

·      Lighting - new poles and light fixtures will be provided with recreational level lighting on all courts;
·      Pavilion Building - deleted building and replaced with two-sided entrance monument sign;
·      Entrance Walkway - north bank of tennis courts will remain at present location and new pedestrian entrance will be shifted to the west of court #7;
·      Tennis Courts - all courts will be resurfaced and receive 4-coat Laycold cushion system, new nets and accessories;
·      Plaza Area - existing plaza will remain; concrete deck will be repaired and receive a new cementitious coating; built-in picnic tables and seating will be removed and replaced with park furniture. Additional modification of the seat wall surrounding the tree will be considered;
·      Practice Wall - existing wall will remain; cracks will be repaired and wall will be painted; area in front of wall will receive Laycold paint finish;
·      Fencing - vertical posts will remain and receive an electrostatic paint finish; damaged or bent fence support members and all mesh and windscreens will be replaced;
·      Drinking Fountains - 3 chilled water drinking fountains will be provided at the court shelters;
·      Parking Lot and Entry Driveway- new concrete curb; asphalt milling and resurfacing; new pavement markings, signage and car bumpers;
·      Landscaping and Irrigation will be modified to reflect the scope changes and will be kept in accordance with the recommendations of the Historic Preservation Board.

It is estimated that the above scope changes will result in approximately $450,000 - $500,000 reduction from the original scope.  A final contract price will be negotiated after final design changes are completed.  It is recommended that a portion of the savings be utilized to complete an assessment and programming study of the existing building facility.
