Discussion regarding the status of City of Coral Gables Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.
Brief History
On May 17, 2012, the Miami-Dade County Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) approved an award of a grant to the City of Coral Gables to develop a “Citywide Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.”

On August 28, 2012, the City Commission authorized the execution of the Interlocal Agreement between the City of Coral Gables and the MPO for the purpose of funding the plan.

On October 30, 2012, the Department of Public Works selected Stantec, an existing continuing services consultant, who partnered with Street Plans Collaborative, an urban planning, design, and research-advocacy firm, to develop the plan.

On June 10, 2014, the City Commission adopted the City of Coral Gables Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan.

Following the adoption of the Coral Gables Bicycle and Pedestrian Master Plan, the Department of Public Works approached its continuing services consultants to provide design services for a preferred alternative to the first phase of the Bicycle Master Plan. Upon receiving feedback, it was determined that the level of design and investment exceeded the original estimate developed in the master plan. The Department will move forward with developing a Request for Qualifications to design components of the Bicycle Master Plan and package them in an effort to apply for significant grant funding. It is envisioned that the selected consultant will further refine the early phasing recommendations made in the Bike Master Plan that connects downtown to Cocoplum Circle. The development of these projects will include community input that will be reflected in the final design of the bicycle facilities.

Additionally, staff will move forward with in-house design of smaller bicycle facility projects, which are defined as requiring little roadway widening or signal modifications. Examples of potential projects include Sevilla Avenue from Red Road to Ponce ...
