Title
Resolution authorizing a budget amendment to the Fiscal Year 2013-2014 Annual Budget to recognize as revenue a transfer from General Fund Reserve and to appropriate such funds to paint the City's bridges and to develop a sustainability master plan.
Body
In order to maintain the structural integrity and aesthetic appearance of the City's bridges, staff is recommending that a program be implemented to paint each bridge for an estimated total cost of $150,000.  The work consists of pressure cleaning and painting nine of the City's bridges with a lime base paint that will replicate years of natural weathering.  The appearance of the paint's patina will change with the light reflecting from the surrounding waterways.  Over time, rainfall will make the patinas darker and richer. This process will keep the appearance of the bridges in tune with the Mediterranean look sought by city founder George Merrick.  Additionally, staff is recommending that the City develop a sustainability master plan, the first in the City's history, at an estimated cost of $200,000.  A budget amendment will be required to recognize as revenue a $350,000 transfer from General Fund Reserve and to appropriate such funds to paint the City's bridges and to develop a sustainability master plan.
