BOARD-AS-A-WHOLE APPOINTMENT: Maricris Longo reported that she has contacted Fairchild Tropical Botanical Garden searching for someone to fill the Board-As-A-Whole position on the board.
ARBOR DAY CELEBRATION: Troy Springmyer noted that the date of May 7, 2009, the location of Riviera Park, and the planting of three Royal Poinciana trees has been cleared by Dan Keys. Eleanor Zahner, who is representing the Coral Gables Garden Club for the Arbor Day Celebration, reported that she has been searching for a speaker. It was suggested that the program begin earlier if necessary in order to accommodate a speaker. She will inform the board when the speaker is verified. The City of Coral Gables will be making programs to distribute at the event and the Coral Gables Garden Club will be sending flyers to their members. Notices will be posted on e-News to inform City of Coral Gables residents of the event.
BEAUTIFICATION AWARDS: Discussion was held regarding the decision to award 2720 Cardena Street as a single home or to give the award for the entire development. George Blet motioned “To amend the previous Beautification Award choice for a Beautification Award to reflect that the designation of 2720 Cardena Street to be changed to the entire Casas Sevillanas Development, bordered by Sevilla Avenue, Cardena Street, Almeria Avenue and Biltmore Court. Further, that all of the individual homes be featured in the photo display in City Hall.” The motion was seconded by Jack Elmore, voted upon and adopted by a unanimous vote.
BUTTERFLY SCULPTURE DONATION: Suzy Amerkan, who is handling the butterfly sculpture donation for the Coral Gables Garden Club, brought the subject butterfly sculpture to show board members.
