Approval.
Brief History
Pursuant to Resolution R-2003-201, the City of Coral Gables entered into an agreement with the South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) to receive and administer a grant in the amount of $500,000.00 for Phase I (design and permitting) of the Coral Gables Waterway Dredging Project. The City subsequently retained the services of the consulting firm of Milian, Swain & Associates to prepare and complete the construction plans and specifications and secure the requisite permits for the project, a requirement of the grant reimbursement. As a result of the many requirements and compounding issues set forth by the regulatory agencies for the project design, Milian, Swain & Associates were unable to secure a permit prior to the funding deadline set forth in the agreement.
SFWMD has extended its cooperation by suggesting that the City enter into a new grant funding agreement reallocating the funds to Phase II, the construction portion of the project, allowing such funds to be used for the reimbursement of the costs incurred in Phase I.
Funding for Phase II of the project will come from a $2.2 million grant award from the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), along with City matching dollars from the Storm Water Utility Fund.
