Brief History
Miami-Dade Schools has instituted new changes to its Coral Gables Public Schools.  The Ace Academy School that was housed at the Merrick Educational Center has been moved out of the City.  Coral Gables Elementary has now been expanded to a K through 8 School, and the Merrick Educational Center will now house the middle school portion of the "Coral Gables K through 8 Preparatory Academy at Merrick Educational Center". During the upcoming school year, the Academy has requested to use Phillips Park for its physical education activities during school days.  These activities will be sports, and games. This year, the school will house approximately 150 sixth grade students.

The school will not have exclusive use of the park, and does not wish to use the playground or bathroom facilities in the park.  The requested use is in accordance with the education compact between the City and Miami-Dade Public Schools.
