City Manager's Recommendation
That the City Commission approve the Resolution of support.
Brief History
In the next two weeks, the Congress will be considering the American Recovery and Reinvestment Bill of 2009. This package is the first crucial step in a concerted effort to create and save 3 to 4 million jobs, jumpstart our economy, and begin the process of transforming it for the 21st century.
It was announced that on January 14, 2009 Governor Crist assigned Dale Brill, Director of the Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development, to coordinate Florida's stimulus list. He has been tasked to collect proposals from local governments as well as other entities.
The City of Coral Gables fully supports this effort and has prepared a Mainstreet Economic Recovery Stimulus Project list, to assist the country and our City by creating jobs that will in turn enhance the economy. The projects are classified in the following categories:
Community Development Block Grant (CDBG); City Streets/Roads, Public Safety and Technology; Water and Wastewater Infrastructure; Transit; and Energy.
