Title
Resolution authorizing the expenditure in the amount of $18,000.00 from previously encumbered Forfeited Asset Fund (FAF) monies to provide for the operation of the Coral Gables Police Department Police Athletic League Summer Camp Program
Body
The City Forfeiture Asset Fund (FAF) Committee met on May 2nd, 2008, and approved the recommendation to distribute $18,000.00 to the Coral Gables Police Athletic League (PAL). These funds will support the Police Athletic League Summer Camp Program, which will serve our community by virtue of its goal to prevent juvenile crime and drug abuse through the activities of the Summer Camp Program. The FAF consists of certain seized monies and the proceeds from the sale of certain forfeited property received from both Federal Asset Sharing and State Forfeited Proceeds.  Under FSS 932.7055, The Florida Contraband Act, a local law enforcement agency must expend or donate no less than 15% of State Forfeited Assets for specific crime prevention, drug prevention or safe neighborhood programs.  The funds were encumbered under Resolution 2006-72 in the amount of $56,355.00.  The distribution of $18, 000.00 to the Coral Gables Police Athletic League will satisfy this statutory requirement.
