Title
Recognition of California Pizza Kitchen for receiving the City's first "A City for All Award."
Body
The City, in collaboration with the Disability Affairs Board, and in an effort to promote inclusion by businesses and organizations within the City, developed the "City for All Award" to recognize businesses within the City that have demonstrated a commitment to the principles of inclusion by employing people with disabilities, maintaining accessible structures, systems and practices, or through community involvement. The City for All Award will inspire businesses to welcome and facilitate participation by individuals with disabilities and encourage accommodations beyond the minimum required by law.
A total of seven businesses were nominated for the City's first City for All Award. A diverse panel of advocates for inclusion identified three finalist from the businesses that were nominated. CGTV prepared a short video featuring the three finalist. The video was presented to the community across the City's social media platforms for public vote. The City engaged the community in the selection process through social media voting in order to spread awareness of the City's Principles of Inclusion.
The winner of the City's first City for All Award is California Pizza Kitchen. California Pizza Kitchen has gone above and beyond to host a monthly neuro-diverse social club. Every month they provide a place for guests with disabilities to have dinner and make new friends. California Pizza Kitchen rearranges the restaurant to allow the entire group to enjoy dinner together, turns down the music to reduce the sensory impact of the environment, and has a menu that is in large print and braille. For some, this is the first time that they have gone out to eat in a restaurant, ordered their own food, and paid their own check. It is a great empowering and independence building experience. Congratulations California Pizza Kitchen !
