Fire Captain Dean James began his career with the City as a Fire Recruit on February 1990 and completed his Firefighter training in March 1990. Through the years he has strived to be the best by acquiring new knowledge and expertise via numerous educational endeavors and special assignments. In April 1993 he qualified for EMT status and for Paramedic in June 2000. He was promoted to Fire Lieutenant in July 2006, was a trainer for recruits in 2007, and in January 2010 he was appointed to Staff Captain in the Professional Standards Division.
Fire Captain James continually displays leadership traits that promote teamwork among his peers. His enthusiasm and motivation are an inspiration to his team. Strategically, he has the ability to anticipate problems and make quick and rational decisions. Captain James plans for future needs, prioritizes projects, and shows creative and seasoned judgment in accomplishing numerous tasks in order to uphold a fine tuned department.
The City greatly appreciates and recognizes Fire Captain James for his 20 years of loyalty, continued high level of performance, and dedication to his coworkers and community.
