Body

The City Commission has consistently expressed interest in building the City’s permanent public art collection with artworks by prominent, world-renowned artists.

On January 11, 2022, the Commission passed Resolution 2022-11, approving the Arts Advisory Panel and Cultural Development Board’s recommendations to include artwork into the Mobility Hub site.

Hernan Bas is an internationally recognized artist who has been discussed as an Artist of interest for this opportunity.

Mr. Bas is a Miami artist, also working in Detroit, known for creating detailed, inventive scenes that figuratively balance imaginary worlds and are open to expansive interpretation. His work is in prominent collections including the Museum of Modern Art, the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the Rubell Museum, among many others. He is highly sought after and has been shown throughout the world most recently in South Korea, France, Switzerland, London, and here in Miami.

The Proposal, once submitted, will follow the city’s standard Art in Public Places approval process, with presentations to the Arts Advisory Panel and Cultural Development Board for recommendations to the City Commission.

Final City Commission approval of the proposal concept and budget is required to proceed with a negotiation through a separate agreement with the Artist for the design, fabrication, delivery and installation of the artwork.
