The School Community Relations Committee minutes of September 20, 2019, requesting that the City Commission increase the board’s membership from seven members to nine members.

Body

At the September 20^th School and Community Relations Committee (“SCRC”) meeting, Mary Snow made a motion to increase the SCRC’s membership from 7 members to 9 members, to better manage the numerous initiatives the committee has taken on, with the suggestion that the additional board members serve as board-as-a-whole appointments. Sandy Dimitris seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously. 

Current committee projects/initiatives include:

-                     “City Beautiful” Schools Initiative

-                     “Community Schools” Project

-                     Financial Literacy Initiative

-                     Mentorship/Community Service Programs

-                     Coral Gables History Tours

-                     Special Needs Services/Programming Initiative

-                     Community Education Initiative

-                     School Libraries/Book Drive Initiative

-                     Technology Initiative

Yearly goals for the committee as a whole also include:

-                     Summer Family Literacy Festival

-                     Strengthen PTA Connections
