The Police Department has determined a need to purchase a Lemur 2 drone to be used by its SWAT Team.
The drone will be used by the SWAT Team to make entry, when applicable, to view the interior of a structure, and to obtain subject and victim locations. This will be an additional tool for dynamic entries and enhances officer safety of entry into very hostile and dangerous situations. The drone is also able to deliver items such as telephones for hostage negotiations, medical supplies for injured, and food for victims or hostages.
Brinc Drones Inc. is the sole source for the Lemur 2 drone due to its unique position as the manufacturer and developer of the drone, as well as the exclusive provider of the comprehensive fleet management, live streaming, and operations hub that integrates seamlessly with the Lemur 2.
The cost for the purchase of this equipment is an estimated amount of $59,997.00 which includes a three-year service contract.
Under Section 2-689 of the Procurement Code, entitled “Sole Source Procurement” authorizes an award without competitive bids when there is only one source available to fulfill the needs of the city.
Recommended Action
That the City Commission accepts the recommendation and authorizes the City Manager to authorize the Police Department to purchase a Lemur 2 drone with Brinc Drones Inc. in an estimated amount of $59,997.00, pursuant to Section 2-689 of the City’s Procurement Code
