Captain Atwood has been selected June’s Firefighter of the Month for his outstanding display of individual initiative surpassing job requirements and expectations, specifically for his hard work and dedication to the department.
There is an incredible talent pool within the ranks of our Fire Department. Captain Atwood was eating at a restaurant and a 94-year-old woman was choking. Captain Atwood jumped into action, did the Heimlich maneuver, and cleared the obstruction. The lady went into cardiac arrest and Greg immediately began compressions until rescue arrived. The patient was transported and survived. Sgt. Ishak Riaz from Miami Dade Police reported that Captain Atwood was directly responsible for saving her life and she would have died if he was not there.
Due to his outstanding work ethic and dedication to the Fire Department, Captain Atwood is nominated for Firefighter of the month for June 2024
