Title
A Resolution authorizing the Chief of Police to make expenditures in the amount of $66,750.00 from the Federally Forfeited Asset Fund (F.A.F.) monies to provide for the purchase of two C3 Maestro Communications Dispatch Consoles.
Body
The Coral Gables Police Department participates with federal law enforcement agencies of the United States Departments of Justice, Treasury and/or Homeland Security in joint law enforcement operations, and the Coral Gables Police Department's participation in those joint federal-local investigations produces federally seized assets that are shared with the Coral Gables Police Department. The United State Department of Justice publication titled "A Guide to Equitable Sharing of Federally Forfeited Property for State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies" provides a description of permissible uses of those forfeited assets to include the costs associated with basic equipment necessary to perform official law enforcement duties and the acquisition of equipment to be used in support of law enforcement operations. The Police Department has identified communications dispatch console equipment for the communications center that will allow two call taker only positions in the Communications Center to become fully multi-functional communications positions. This enhancement of the functionality of these communications center positions are necessary to perform official law enforcement duties and will directly support all of the law enforcement activities and operations of the Coral Gables Police Department. The City Forfeited Asset Fund (F.A.F.) Committee met on July 10th, 2008, and approved the recommendation to expend a total of $66,750.00 from Federally Forfeited Assets. |
