Unlike most nominations, which are often based on a single arrest or incident, this nomination
recognizes Field Training Officer Julio Gonzalez for his entire body of work throughout the
month of March 2026.
Throughout this period, FTO Gonzalez was assigned a Probationary Police Officer on Alpha
Shift. Alpha Shift is widely recognized as the slower shift in comparison to Bravo and Charlie.
Call volume is minimal and officers must generate proactive police work through initiative,
resourcefulness, and significantly greater effort than other shifts. Despite these challenges, FTO
Gonzalez demonstrated an extraordinary level of initiative and productivity.
During the month of March, FTO Gonzalez amassed a total of nine arrests, spanning a wide
range of charges, including battery, traffic offenses, weapons violations, drug possession, and
warrants. This level of productivity on Alpha Shift is highly uncommon and reflects a work ethic
and drive that far exceeds expectations. In over a decade, this level of enforcement activity on
this shift is rarely seen. In fact, it is uncommon for any officer within the Coral Gables Police
Department to achieve this number of arrests over a one-to-two-year period, let alone within 30 days.
