Title

A Resolution of the City Commission authorizing emergency structural repairs to the Venetian Pool’s East Tower located at 2701 De Soto Boulevard, pursuant to Section 2-690 Emergency Procurement, in the estimated amount of $96,477.

Body

The Public Works Department would like to expedite repairs to the Venetian Pool’s East Tower due to critical structural deficiencies. Recent inspections revealed cracks in the walls and balconies.  Precautions have been taken to ensure public safety including the temporary shoring of the structure. However, continued exposure to the elements will accelerate the deterioration. Thus, the department is asking for emergency authorization to proceed with the repairs by Red Door Construction upon the closure of the pool after October 13, 2024, to avoid further damage and an increased cost and extent to the repairs required.  Public Works has selected Red Door Construction company to facilitate the repairs  as they have  worked on other historical city properties in the past and is familiar with the Venetian Pool facility.

Under Section 2-690 of the Procurement Code, entitled “Emergency Procurement,” where the City Manager authorizes the emergency procurements of supplies, services, or construction when there exists an immediate threat to public health, welfare, or safety or to prevent or minimize serious disruption of government services.

Fiscal Impact

These repairs would minimize scheduled maintenance of this kind at this location of the facility.
