TITLE:
A Resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept Miami-Dade County’s Parking Fines Reimbursement in the amount of $12,195.00 to be used in the construction of sidewalk extensions in the City of Coral Gables to improve accessibility and equal opportunity to persons who have disabilities.
CITY MANAGER'S RECOMMENDATION(S):
That a Resolution authorizing the City Manager to accept Miami-Dade County’s Parking Fines Reimbursement in the amount of $12,195.00 to be used in the construction of sidewalk extensions in the City of Coral Gables to improve accessibility and equal opportunity to qualified persons who have disabilities be approved by the City Commission.
BRIEF HISTORY:
The Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners has recently streamlined the Parking Fines Reimbursement Program where the County retains 30% for countywide purposes in accordance with state law and 70% is allocated to the governmental entity having jurisdiction over the violation.

The combination of fines collected in the previous fiscal year, and unspent funds from other municipalities, makes available an amount of $12,195.00 for which the City of Coral Gables may apply. In order to meet the deadline to apply for this reimbursement, we have asked the Miami-Dade County ADA Coordinator for an extension which has been granted. The deadline has been extended to July 18, 2008.

Originally the Miami-Dade County Manager, in a letter dated May 30, 2008, informed the City that the Parking Fines Reimbursement Program had unspent funds in the amount of $8,949.95 for which the City of Coral Gables could apply. In an e-mail dated July 8, 2008 Heidi Johnson-Wright, Director, Office of ADA Coordination, notified us that the amount had been increased to $12,195.00.
