Body
The Parking Department has been examining the existing on-street payment collection methods (single-space meter devises and multi-space pay-stations) in order to provide recommendations to improve revenue control and user experience for on-street parking. A study conducted by the consulting firm, Timothy Haahs and Associates, Inc., on behalf of the Parking Department looked at on-street payment collection methods in the following four zones: Downtown Coral Gables, University of Miami, Cobb Stadium/Riviera Park and Merrick Park. The focus of this agenda item is their recommendation regarding parking meters in Downtown Coral Gables.

As a result of their study, the consultant recommends, to maximize return on investment, the purchase and installation of eighty (80) multi-space meters to replace the majority of single-space meter devices in the Downtown area at a total cost of $656,400. In addition, the consultant recommends equipment and software upgrades to the existing eighty-six (86) multi-space meters currently located in City parking lots and on-street parking areas in Downtown at a cost of $6,450.

Replacement of single space meters with multi-space pay stations will significantly increase the amount of usable space for pedestrians on the sidewalks. In addition, installation of multi-space pay stations will provide customers with convenient payment options including the use of bills and credit cards.
