Congratulations to Firefighter John Zipse, recipient of the City of Coral Gables “Firefighter of the Month Award,” for the month of April 2017.

Firefighter John Zipse has been selected April’s Firefighter of the Month for his outstanding display of individual initiative surpassing job requirements and expectations, specifically for his extraordinary efforts at recent fires. In one of the fires at a high rise condominium on Edgewater Drive, Firefighter Zipse assisted other drivers on the scene with pumping and securing a water supply. He proceeded to make entry into the structure fire with his Engine 3 crew. Throughout the event he made entry 3 separate times. This particular event was complex at a high rise that required many firefighters to secure the scene and assist with evacuation of elderly residents.
Firefighter Zipse is a very knowledgeable driver and firefighter. As a driver of Engine 3 he is always aware of his surroundings and is willing to train to keep his skills updated. He has also assisted with the training and development of the department’s Extrication Team.
Firefighter Zipse is well deserving of this honor and we congratulate him for his efforts.
