Title
Resolution authorizing the City to accept a donation of $15,000 from the University of Miami for the purpose of purchasing and installing a Digital Payment Technologies multi-space pay and display system along a portion of San Amaro Drive.
Body
The University of Miami (UM) is in the process of reviewing an upgrading pedestrian and bicycle connection on campus in support of their "green" initiatives. This includes connections from student housing to campus. One of the high traffic areas identified is a section of San Amaro Drive. San Amaro Drive is a City of Coral Gables street that borders the UM campus. Currently, San Amaro Drive includes parallel parking managed by the City with single space meters installed in the side walk.
These meters significantly reduce the amount of usable space available to pedestrians along San Amaro Drive. In exchange for removal of the single space meters, UM is willing to pay for an alternative revenue control system along this portion of San Amaro Drive. In addition, UM will provide an acceptable locations, adjacent to the UM tennis courts, for the installation of the multi-space pay station.
Installation of a multi-space station is consistent with the long range goals of the Parking Department. The system selected will provide patrons with multiple payment options including: pay-by-phone, credit card payment, coins and notes. In addition, this multi-space pay station will provide a more secure system for revenue control, collection and audit purposes.
