It is my pleasure to nominate Margie Gomez as the Employee of the Month for July 2014.
Margie started working for the City of Coral Gables in October 2004 as a Contract Specialist. Since hiring Margie, she has proven herself to be a conscientious, hard-working and dedicated employee. Margie mastered every task given to her, has always shown a willingness to give extra effort to meet Department timelines and goals.
In 2009, Procurement began handling construction bids for the first time, with Margie in time becoming the “go to” person for Procurement and the Public Works Department in conducting these bids. Margie has been the Contract Specialist on a number of very important construction projects bids including: Citywide Street Resurfacing Phase I and 2, Ingraham and Tiziano Park Improvement Project, C-3 Canal Improvement Project and most of the pump station rehabilitation projects. Many of these projects are very high profile to the community that the residents now enjoy, such as the street, park and canal projects. In the case of the construction projects, the Public Works Department has grown to depend on Margie to analyze proposed scopes of work and other required aspects of bids to correct potential problems, before the bid is advertised.
Margie also conducted Request for Qualifications solicitations of design firms for two (2) major signature projects in the City that are currently being designed. Those projects include the Fred B. Hartnett/Ponce Circle Park Improvements and the Public Safety Building Renovation
