TRAFFIC CIRCLES: Linda Lawrence reported that the intersection of Alhambra Circle and Segovia Street had been reconfigured to eliminate the diagonal street, Segovia Circle. She believes that the angle created is dangerous and will cause problems. Dan Keys stated that the intent of the changes to the intersection was traffic calming.

VACANT BOARD POSITION: The board discussed two nominees for the vacant Board as a Whole position. Linda Lawrence made a motion to “Nominate Paul Zamek to fill the Board as a Whole position.” The motion was seconded by Robert Parsley, voted upon and adopted with a unanimous vote.

SEGOVIA STREET/BILTMORE WAY TRAFFIC CIRCLE: Dan Keys reported that the plan at this time is to plant a kapok tree in the proposed new traffic circle. He noted that the project is moving quickly.

GIRALDA & RESTAURANT ROW/MIRACLE MILE UPDATE: Dan Keys reported that a proposal or plan has been produced and that it is being disseminated to all interested parties.

OLD SPANISH VILLAGE: No new developments at this time.

PONCE CIRCLE PARK: Dan Keys reported that curbing, pavers and sod have been installed at the three corners bordering the park as a temporary measure to clean up the areas.

Barbara Katzen asked how the board felt about asking Commission Cabrera to consider Ana Alvarez to fill the position vacated by George Blet. Members agreed and Dan Keys stated that he would see that her resume is forwarded to Commissioner Cabrera.

Barbara Katzen noted that she had been confronted by another City resident who was asking why the City was planting so many Oak trees, stating that she would like to see more flowering trees. Dan Keys noted that when there is an opportunity and suitable place to plant a flowering tree, he uses those places for them as accents. Flowering trees need to be planted in key places and not necessarily as street trees on entire blocks.
